Our Growth in the Brazilian Affiliate Marketing Industry

At Surfmyads.com, we've always been interested in the South American market. With almost 20 years in affiliate marketing, we've observed its global spread, starting from major networks like Rakuten (formerly "Linkshare") and CJ (which acquired the Befree Network) in the US, to the rise of AWIN and Tradedoubler in the UK and Europe. Recently, we've noticed an uptick in affiliate marketing in Brazil, a country that's long been on our radar as a global coupon brand site provider. Factors like its large population, the growth of e-commerce, and consumer behavior have kept us closely watching this market.

After thorough market research by our marketing managers, we launched our coupon and discount code site, desconto.com.br, in Brazil. We acquired a domain name that's a perfect fit for the market — "Desconto" means "discount" in Portuguese. We believe that a strong domain name significantly boosts conversion rates.

We first assessed the support existing US and European networks offer in this market. Rakuten Network, for instance, includes over 100 local Brazilian stores. We partner with several top performers like Farfetch, Chico Rei, CompraCerta, Brastemp, PneuStore, Boticario, Droga Raia, Drogasil, and Pond5. However, Rakuten could benefit from dedicating more resources, as the number of new programs has been stagnant. CJ, on the other hand, has few local Brazilian programs, which seems like an oversight. However, We do work with US advertisers from CJ who want to get some traffic from that market. For example, one of our close partners is Norton Brazil and we continue to generate sales for them in this market.

AWIN stands out as a major network investing in Brazil, especially after acquiring Zanox. They have over 200 local programs, including Coach, DolceGusto, Fotoregistro, Dentro da Historia, Sestini, and Lezalez.

We've also invested in local Brazilian affiliate networks like Afilio.com.br, UOL Afiliados. While these local networks are making progress, their UI and tracking technologies still lag behind those in the U.S. market.

The affiliate marketing ecosystem operates in a cycle: More advertisers in networks lead to more publishers, which then leads to more coupons and offers, resulting in happier customers and more transactions. This, in turn, attracts a higher affiliate marketing budget.
